First National River Summit planned at Iloilo City
The First National River Summit is planned to be held at Iloilo City and will be conducted before year end. The thrust of this summit will be to add momentum to river development. The two day summit would bring together 40 to 50 local government units in the country and will discuss the best practices to be implemented for about 10-11 rivers in Philippines.
Iloilo city mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog plays the key role in conducting this summit. At the same time Senator Franklin M.Drilon too is supportive of the summit which he feels is very important as it could create awareness about rivers and their importance in day-to-day life. He's reportedly trying to get the Department of Environment and Natural Resources and the Rivers of the World Foundation to co-sponsor the summit. Rehabilitation, conservation and watershed development happen to be of prime concern. The summit may take place in late October or early November this year.
