Philippines reports surge in new HIV infections
Sam, our friend who works with Sirius Marketing, Singapore, was shocked to read the details in the Global AIDS report of the United Nations Program on HIV-AIDS (UNAIDS). The report states that while worldwide there has been a 21 percent decrease in new HIV infections since 1997 and a fall of 21 percent in AIDS-related death since 2005, Philippines is one of the seven nations which has reported a surge in new HIV infections of over 25 percent.
The Manila office of UNAIDS notes that Philippines had not been making progress in meeting its sixth Millennium Development Goal, which intends to contain and reverse the spread of HIV-AIDS. Anti-HIV-AIDS programs in Philippines remain unfunded or underfunded and have done nothing to combat the pace of HIV transmission.
UNAIDS report says that AIDS-related death figures worldwide have gone down from the 2.2 million in 2005 to 1.8 million in 2010.
